Hi! So happy to share a recent milestone in my perfumery journey. I have successfully completed Levels 1–3 of the Grasse Institute of Perfumery (GIP) 🇫🇷 online course in Perfumery Raw Materials & Fragrance Creation.
I am grateful to have completed all three levels with strong scores and encouraging feedback. Throughout the program, I studied nearly 200 perfumery raw materials and created numerous accords, gaining both technical knowledge and creative confidence.
Level 1 focused on the foundations of perfumery. I explored the history of perfume, evaluated 50 raw materials, and analyzed well-known fragrances to understand structure and composition.
Level 2 expanded my palette with 50 additional raw materials and introduced accord creation across major fragrance families, including Citrus, Fougère, Chypre, and Oriental. During this level, I also created five creative accords: Rose, Apple, Tea, Mojito, and Orange Flower. My creation “Summer Apple” was selected by class vote for its fresh, clean, shampoo-like character.
Level 3 was the most advanced and intensive stage. I learned 100 new raw materials and developed six key accords: Muguet, Jasmine, Blackberry, Ambery, Oud, and Violet. We also created a woody accord and adapted it into a candle fragrance. In addition, I developed original formulations and wrote a creative brief inspired by Paradise Island. Staying true to my gourmand style, I designed a fruity, sweet, floral fragrance—my personal vision of paradise captured in a bottle.
Grasse, located in the south of France, truly lives up to its reputation as the perfume capital of the world.
This journey has been deeply inspiring and filled with creativity, scent exploration, and meaningful learning. I am excited to continue growing as a perfumer and to share this knowledge and inspiration with my students in the months ahead.
In summary, completing this program has strengthened both my technical foundation and creative voice in perfumery, and it marks an exciting step forward in my ongoing fragrance journey!
Love,
Josephine
